Kids Dance on Film Workshop

This creative workshop invites young dancers to explore the art of movement and storytelling through film. Designed for students with at least one year of dance training, the experience bridges technique, imagination, and performance for the camera.

We will meet once a week to focus on warm-up, choreography, creative staging, costuming, and building a dance specifically for film. Dancers will explore how movement translates to the screen—developing presence, musicality, timing, spatial awareness, and emotional expression as they relate to filmed performance.

The dance-making process will take place at Nicole’s home studio in the Sky Harbor neighborhood of Yucca Valley. The final two filming sessions will be held outdoors at Black Rock (weather permitting). Working both indoors and outdoors is a core part of this workshop, giving dancers the opportunity to create movement in relationship to the landscape and experience a full creative process from start to finish.

By the end of the session, participants will have contributed to a completed dance-on-film work and gained insight into how their dance training can expand beyond the stage into interdisciplinary creative practice.
